HCI consultants are highly–qualified health care professionals specializing in ambulatory health care settings. They are or have been very active in their respective fields and have been involved in helping health care organizations prepare for accreditation over many years. HCI consultants have backgrounds in medicine, nursing, health care administration, law and other professional disciplines. Most are active accreditation surveyors, hence are intimately familiar and up-to-date on accreditation standards and methods of preparation for the accreditation on-site survey.

HCI’s principal consultant is Barbara Ann Harmer, RN. With years of diverse health care experience, she has held positions ranging from staff nurse to the Executive Corporate Director of Surgical Services for a variety of prestigious health care organizations and has also conducted accreditation surveys for the Accreditation Association for 24 years. She is very active on the speaking circuit, being sought after at conferences and meetings to give presentations on various accreditation topics and to conduct training workshops to prepare organizations for accreditation.
